lyrics

Dialling through the dead channels
With a sharp intake of breath
A high blink rate, feeling second rate
You die a little death
Thinking as a foreign language
New ways to construe
The sleep of reason gives rise to demons
It’s the hope that kills you

The hope that kills you

Biding time in the endless struggle
You may fall into despair
The clock face cracks as you break your back
When it becomes too much to bear
Stare too long into the abyss
It might stare right back at you
We twist, resist or reminisce
It’s the hope that kills you

The hope that kills you

Engaging in a relentless search
What a tangled web was spun
If you’ve been to war a hundred times
It was only the war that won
Like trying to fight the restless feeling
From a time that you once knew
You can make a fine art of falling apart
But it’s the hope that kills you

It’s the hope that kills you

Dialling through the dead channels
With a sharp intake of breath
A high blink rate, feeling second rate
You die a little death
Thinking as a foreign language
New ways to construe
The sleep of reason gives rise to demons
It’s the hope that kills you
